Christine Krabs, Program Director,
Born and raised in Hamburg, Germany, Christine lived and worked in Edinburgh, London and Berlin before settling down in her husband’s native, New York, in 1999, where she developed her passion for the Montessori approach and early childhood education at the Brooklyn Heights Montessori School (BHMS, 1999-2001).
She founded Wortspiele in 2004 in an effort provide high-quality German language and culture immersion and education for children being raised with German as a second native language, including her own two (now almost grown, but still bilingual) children.
Next to being a trained Montessori early childhood educator (CMTE/NY, 2001), Christine holds a degree and (German) state certification as “Diplom-Sozialpädagogin”/in social pedagogy from The University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, Germany (1993). She is currently earning a master´s degree in Early Childhood Education at Bank Street College, one of the nations leading institutions for progressive education.
Maria Ohlson, Educational Director
Maria is a highly qualified, NYS dual-certified early-childhood and elementary school teacher with 15 plus years of teaching experience in the U.S.. She holds an MS in both general & special Education from Touro College (2004) and a BA in English Language Arts from Hunter College (2002). Before joining the Wortspiele team as Educational Director and English Head Teacher and, Maria has taught in a wide range of school settings, including Waldorf, Emilio Reggio, Montessori and Bank Street´s Developmental-Interaction approach.
Originally from Italy, Maria grew up bilingual, speaking Italian and English, before she moved to the US, many years ago. In her free time, she loves to explore nature, art and travels with her family.,
Katja Nagy, Assistant Teacher
Katja relocated with her family to Brooklyn from the Czech Republic, where she worked as a German teacher in a High School. Fluent in several languages, and a native-German speaker, Katja holds a degree in German-as-a-foreign-language teacher from ,
Katja has worked both with young elementary and high school students in various countries throughout Europe before moving to the US.
She is also the mother of a four year old Wortspiele student.
Zuzana Rajjova, Assistant Teacher
Zuzana joined the Wortspiele team as an assistant teacher in 2017. Originally from Slovakia, where she earned a Foreign Language Degree (Magister) in German and Russian, Zuzana quickly became an instant favorite with the children, and a full time assistant teacher at our program.
Zuzana is currently preparing for her master’s degree in Early Childhood education.
