Christine Krabs, Program Director, Head Teacher
As Wortspiele founder, program director, and head teacher Christine has been the visionary and driving force behind Wortspiele since day one. With over 18 years of experience in preschool education, Christine is a seasoned and well respected educator, and one of the pioneers in Early Childhood Language Immersion Education in Brooklyn. She is also the co-founder and founding member of the board of directors of the German School Brooklyn (GSB), established in 2014.
Born and raised in Hamburg, Germany, Christine has lived and worked in Edinburgh, London and Berlin before settling down in her husband’s native, New York, in 1999. She discovered her passion for both teaching and the Montessori approach at the Brooklyn Heights Montessori School (BHMS), where she worked until the birth of her first child in 2002.
Christine received her training in Montessori Early Childhood Education from The Center For Montessori Teacher Training (CMTE/NY), a Montessori teacher training institute fully accredited by the American Montessori Society (AMS), in 2001. She holds a degree and state license in social pedagogy from the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg/Germany, and is currently pursuing an MA in Early Childhood Education at Bank Street College, one of the nations leading institutions for progressive education.
Gayle Shalom, Educational Director
Gayle is a NYS certified early childhood & elementary school teacher (preK-6th grade) with over 17 years of experience as both teacher and administrator/director.
Prior to joining Wortspiele, Gayle worked as the educational director of a large daycare center/preschool with Universal Pre-K. She received a Master’s Degree in Education (1998) and a Bachelor´s Degree in Business Administration/Management (1995) from The New York Institute of Technology.
As our educational director Gayle conducts daily classroom and building inspections and takes care of all student and staff screenings to make sure the school is in compliance with the regulations of the NYC Department of Health.
Judith Sloan, Administration
Born and raised in Germany, and the mother of two bilingual daughters, both Wortspiele students at the time, Judith joined the Wortspiele team as administrative assistant in 2016 after a break from her career in hospitality management.

Katja Nagy, Assistant Teacher
Katja relocated with her family to Brooklyn from the Czech Republic, where she worked as a German teacher in a High School. Fluent in several languages, and a native-German speaker, Katja holds a degree in German-as-a-foreign-language teacher from ,
Katja has worked both with young elementary and high school students in various countries throughout Europe before moving to the US.
She is also the mother of a four year old Wortspiele student.
Zuzana Rajjova, Assistant Teacher
Zuzana joined the Wortspiele team as an assistant teacher in 2017. Originally from Slovakia, where she earned a Foreign Language Degree (Magister) in German and Russian, Zuzana quickly became an instant favorite with the children, and a full time assistant teacher at our program.
Zuzana is currently preparing for her master’s degree in Early Childhood education.
