Der Wortspiele Montessori Kindergarten wird altersgemischt sein, für 2, 3 und 4 jährige Kinder mit einem Schwerpunkt auf Förderung und Vermittlung der deutschen Sprache und Kultur für zweisprachig aufwachsende Kinder in NYC.

Da das 3. Lebensjahr in der frühkindlichen Sprachentwicklung enorm wichtig ist, und 5-jährige Kinder in den USA bereits schulpflichtig sind, haben wir die traditionellen Montessori-Vorschul-Altersgrenzen etwas nach unten verschoben: 2-jährige Kinder können halbtags (vormittags), 3- und 4-jährige Kinder ganz- oder halbtags (nur nachmittags) angemeldet werden. Dementsprechend unterrichten wir vormittags 2-4 jährige Kinder und nachmittags 3 und 4 jährige Kinder in unserem Kindergarten.

Die maximale Gruppengröße beträgt 12 Kinder, mit 3 (vormittags) bzw. 2 (nachmittags) LehrerInnen.

Räumlichkeiten und Lage

Der Wortspiele Kindergarten liegt im hellen, geräumigen Erdgeschoß eines 3-stöckigen Brownstone Gebäudes im Herzen von Prospect Heights, einen Steinwurf entfernt vom Prospect Park, dem Brooklyn Museum of Art, dem Brooklyn Botanical Gardens und der Brooklyn Public Library. Es gibt einen geräumigen Garten, in dem die Kinder nicht nur spielen sondern auch pflanzen und gärtnern können.

Wir sind zentral gelegen, nur wenige Minuten zu Fuß von der U-Bahn (2/3, S, 4/5) und diversen Bushaltestellen (B71, B69, B45, B48), und aus diversen Nachbarschaften Brooklyns sowie aus Manhattan gut zu erreichen.

Ein erstes Open House wird es im April 2010 geben, und wir planen im Herbst 2010 zu öffnen.

Age of Children and pedagogical focus

The Wortspiele German Montessori preschool will be a mixed age classroom for 2,3 and 4 year old children. Our special focus is on teaching German language and culture to children being raised bilingually in New York City, typically (but not necessarily) with one adult Native German speaker in the family. All our classes will be conducted exclusively in German, by native German speaking teachers, quite a few of them having been raised bilingually themselves.

Since the third year of life is of crucial importance in early language development and public Kindergarden starts at 5 years of age we have moved the traditional Montessori preschool age range down to include the 2 year old children. 2 year old children may be registered half days (mornings) only, 3 and 4 year olds may be registered full or half days (afternoons only).

Therefore we will be teaching 2-4 year olds in the mornings and 3 & 4 year olds in the afternoons

Maximum group size is 12 children, with 3 teachers in the mornings and 2 teachers in the afternoon.

Location and Space

The Wortspiele German Montessori preschool is located on the bright and beautiful ground floor of a 3-story brownstone building in the heart of Prospect Heights, a few minutes from Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and the Brooklyn Public Library.

We have a spacious backyard for outdoor play time as well as gardening and planting activities.

We can be easily reached by public transportation via subway (2/3, S, 4/5) or bus B69, B45, B48).

We hope to be able to host a first Open House in April 2010 and are planning to open in fall 2010.
